Asymptotic normalization coefficients and the {sup 7}Be(p,{gamma}){sup 8}B astrophysical S factor
We consider the results of two proton transfer reactions, {sup 10}B({sup 7}Be,{sup 8}B){sup 9}Be and {sup 14}N({sup 7}Be,{sup 8}B){sup 13}C, to obtain a weighted average of the measured asymptotic normalization coefficients for the virtual transition {sup 7}Be+p{leftrightarrow}{sup 8}B. These coefficients specify the amplitude of the tail of the {sup 8}B overlap function in the {sup 7}Be+p channel, and are used to calculate the astrophysical S factor for the direct capture reaction {sup 7}Be(p,{gamma}){sup 8}B at solar energies, S{sub 17}(0). In light of recent improvements in the determination of optical-model potentials, including detailed understanding of the correlations between the DWBA analyses of the two experiments, and a new experimental measurement of the asymptotic normalization coefficients for the virtual transition {sup 13}C+p{leftrightarrow}{sup 14}N,y we report a weighted average asymptotic normalization coefficient of C{sub p{sub 3/2}}{sup 2}=0.388{+-}0.039 fm{sup -1} for {sup 8}B{leftrightarrow}{sup 7}Be+p, which implies S{sub 17}(0)=17.3{+-}1.8 eVb.
