Treaty for the prohibition of nuclear weapons in Latin America (Treaty of Tlatelolco)

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4020558
The Tlatelolco Treaty established the first area inhabited by man in which nuclear weapons are prohibited. Eighteen Latin American States party thereto undertake to use all nuclear material and facilities exclusively for peaceful purposes. Special features on the Treaty are outlined; attention is called to obligations resulting therefrom that may require the adoption of appropriate legislation by the countries concerned in relation to the establishment of a national system of material control, the prohibition of transit of nuclear weapons and the status of foreign facilities over which effective jurisdiction is not exercised by a State party to the Treaty.
