A solid-state galvanic cell in the temperature range 700 to 970 deg C was used to measure the free energy of formation of ThC/sub 2/. At 800 deg C the standard molar free energy of formation of ThC/sub 2/ is -29.4 plus or minus 0.3 kcal/mole. The entropy and heat of formation of ThC/sub 2/ were estimated from the results to be -7.2 eu and -37.1 kcal/mole, respectively in the temperature range of the experiments. (P.C.H.)
