A technique is described for producing permanent transparency in polyethylene and similar crystallizable polyolefins. The polymer is heated above its transition temperature and is rapidly quenched. The temporary transparency of the polymer is made permanent by an irradiation dose of about 50 to 75 Mrep. The polymer can be remoulded after irradiation with no appreciable transparency loss.
