A magnetic mass spectrometer composed of two stages combined in one vacuum chamber with 180 deg focusing in each stage is described. Expressions for the linear and specific dispersion of the spectrometer are given. As an example the mass spectra of the isotopes in natural potassium are used to show the possibility of quantitatively measuring two peaks that differ by one mass unit for an intensity ratio of 10/sup 6/ to 10/sup 7/.
