A METHOD OF EXTENDING THE ENERGY RANGE OF THE HELIUM-3 NEUTRON SPECTROMETER

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
A method of extending the energy range of the helium-3 neutron spectrometer is described. The method provides the instrument with the capability of analyzing continuous neutron spectra that include neutrons of energies in excesa of 1 Mev. Presented is a description of the wall-less'' counter constructed as part of the project, the formulation of the problem of calculating the interfering helium-3 recoil spectra by analyzing the true (n,p) spectrum, and a verification of the method utilizing a monoenergetic source of neutrons. An outline of the computer code programmed to infer and unfold the interfering spectra is given. (auth)
