EXPOSURE CONTROL IN CINERADIOGRAPHY

Journal Article · · Radiology (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4016034
A semiautomatic exposure-control meter circuiting is described, which may be used on either a manually or automatically operated x-ray generator to assure proper pre-exhibition of cine exposure technique. When utilized with an automatic brightness-stabilization circuit, the exposure-control mete r serves the important additional function of assuring that the phototube signal to the generator control is adequate to achieve the proper intensity for comrect film exposure. The exposure meter adaptation may be switched to mnanual operation at any time if the automatic stabilizing circuit fails to balance properly. Two major limitations of the exposure control system are described that prevent its being completely automatic in function: it mnust be individually calibrated with the predetermined light response of the phototube, the filmemulsion speed, the framing rate, the camera aperture, and the processing method; and no mechanical or electrical compensating device is provided to adjust the sensitivity of the phototube to the varying intensities of light emerging from the output screen of the image tube with the changes in field size during fluoroscopic collimution. Further research is needed to develop a fully automatic photoscanning device for cine exposure control. (auth)
