THE TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATIONS OF LARGE FISSION PRODUCT BETA SOURCES. Quarterly Report, July 1-October 1, 1960

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4015570
A powder spreader, developed for use in the fabrication of plsnar vitreous enamel beta sources, was improved. High recoveries of enamel are achieved by re-use of the melting crucible. All source fabrication procedures and apparatus were modified or adapted for use with remote handling techniques. "Cold" runs were completed in preparation for fabricating Ce/sup 1//sup 4//sup 4/ and Pm/sup 1//sup 4//sup 7/ sources containin g 0.5 to 1.0 mc/sq.cm., and Sr/sup 9//sup 0/ sources containing sbout 1 mu c/sq.cm. The radiation-induced graft polymerization process for grafting methacrylic acid-styrene on polypropylene is being further developed to be consistent with commerical fllm and fabric handling techniques. Evaluations are being made of the dyeability of the grafted polypropylene. (auth)
