THE OPTICAL ENERGY GAP OF SCANDIUM OXIDE

Journal Article · · Phys. Chem. Solids

An estimate of the optica1 energy gap of Sc/sub 2/O/sub 3/ is reported. Results in the 3.0 to 6.5 ev range are illustrated. The optical energy gap, evaluated at the onset of absorption, is approximately 5.4 ev, a result compatinle with the trend shown in similar measurements for neighboring higher metal oxides. (P.C.H.)
