RADIATION YIELDS AND REACTIONS IN DILUTE INORGANIC SOLUTIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4013957

A review is presented on the problems of yields of free radicals formed by water radiolysis in neutral, acid, and basic solutions. It is indicated that discrepancies in the data for neutral solutions suggest that a hitherto unrecognized type of free radical may possibly be involved. Data on basic solutions appear discordant. The relative reactivities of various inorganic substances in aqueous solution towards hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen atoms, and solvated electrons are tabulated. The question of the identity of the radical formed in the Fenton reaction is discussed. 53 references are included. (P.C.H.)
