Argon- and krypton-induced reactions at energies of 4--7 MeV/amu

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C, v. 13, no. 4, pp. 1483-1495
Measurements have been made of the reaction $sup 40$Ar + $sup 109$Ag at laboratory energies between 169 and 337 MeV, $sup 40$Ar + $sup 121$Sb at 282 and 340 MeV, and $sup 84$Kr + $sup 65$Cu at 494 and 604 MeV. Measurements and results include elastic scattering, evaporation residue angular distributions and cross sections, fission plus quasifission angular distributions, kinetic energy distributions, and yields versus atomic number. Evaporation residue yields are shown to be consistent with limits predicted by evaporation calculations which include fission competition. Fusion cross sections for the $sup 40$Ar plus $sup 109$Ag or $sup 121$Sb systems are shown to be consistent with the liquid drop limit in terms of the angular momentum at which the fission barrier is estimated to go to zero. Kinetic energies of the fissionlike yields are compared with predicted values. (AIP)
