A 150 kv accelerator for atomic and molecular ion beams is designed and built in CISE's Nuclear Physics Laboratory. Besides being simple in construction and functioning, it offers the possibility of obtaining currents of the order of a ma. The radiofrequency ion source with axial Magnetic field permits extraction of a current of 2 ma. The machine can be employed as an ion injector for plasma physics research and for studies of elementary collision phenomena in atomic physics. The accelerator may conveniently be used as a 14 Mev neutron generator, by means of the reaction T(d,n) He/sup 4/, allowing intensities of 10/ sup 9/ to 10/sup 1//sup 0/ neutrons/sec to be obtained.
