Nuclear safeguards

Journal Article · · Annu. Rev. Nucl. Sci., v. 25, pp. 407-421
An overview is given of the risks of destructive uses of nuclear materials and of the actions that are being taken or could be taken to reduce these risks. Emphasis is on basic facts and issues that are likely to be relevant for some time. A definition of safeguards is offered. Resources that would be needed by subversives to make fission explosives are discussed. International civilian nuclear technology is reviewed and power and Pu production by each country tabulated. Finally, present and possible future safeguards are discussed. (DLC)
