ON THE SUPERCONDUCTIVITY OF TERNARY /cap beta/-TITANIUM ALLOYS (in German)

The elements Sc to Cu, Y to Ag, and La to Au were dissolved in BETA -- Ti- Rh alloys and the superconducting behavior of these ternary mixed crystals was investigated. The pattern of the transition temperature - concentration curve was largely the same of elements with 3d, 4d, and 5d electrons and could be explained on the basis of the Matthias rule from the change of the valence electron concentration, N. With increasing valence electron concentration the transition temperature of the alloy increased, passed through a maximum of about 4 deg K between N = 4.4 and 4.6, and again decreased. Only Mn and Re, as well as in certain senses the Ru and Os alloys deviated from the increasing trend of the T/sub c/- N curve, which could be explained on the basis of the magnetic properties of the elements concerned.
