Experimental Study of High-Energy Nuclear Interactions in Cosmic Radiation (thesis); ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE DES INTERACTIONS NUCLEAIRES DE HAUTE ENERGIE DANS LE RAYONNEMENT COSMIQUE (THESES)

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4010086
The theoretical and experimental data on high-energy nuclear interactions are briefly reviewed. The experimental conditions used for the study of primary energies of the order of 100 Bev and the characteristics of the Wilson chamber used and its magnetic field are reported. The methods used for the selection and measurement of events are described. Measurements made in the laboratory system on jet multiplicity, the nature of the particles, and the distribution of the transverse pulse are given. The results obtained in the center-of-mass system on incident energy, angular distribution, energy spectra, and inelasticity are then reported. The nature of the interactions are analyzed, and the results are analyzed using models currently accepted for this type of interaction. (J.S.R.)
