ALPHA ACTIVE ISOMERS IN Bi$sup 201$ AND Bi$sup 19$$sup 9$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
Isomerism was established in /sup 201/Bi and indicated in /sup 199/Bi from sources prepared with refined chemical procedures and electromagnetic mass separation. Measurements with a gridded ionization chamber resulted in the following alpha-particle energies and half lives: /sup 201m/Bi 5.27 plus or minus 0.02 Mev, 52 plus or minus 2 min and /sup 199m/ 5.52 plus or minus 0.02 Mev, 24.4 plus or minus 0.5 min. The element assignment of the 7 min 5.83 Mev alpha activity, earlier assigned to /sup 198/Bi, was confirmed and more accurate values of the energy and half life obtained (5.81 plus or minus 0.03 Mev, 8.0 plus or minus 0.5 min). The electron capture half life of /sup 199/Bi was measured to be 27 plus or minus 1 min. (auth)
