PREDICTING TIME-OF-BURST OF EXPLODING WIRES FROM THERMODYNAMIC AND ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES

A method of predicting the upper bound of the time-ofburst from known thermodynamic and electrical properties of the wire material is presented. The measurement of time-of-burst can yield information on properties of the material at high temperatures. The method consists of determining transformation time integrals'' of the form of action integrals'' that have been empirically observed in exploding wire work. In cases where enough thermodynamic data are available, the computed transformation time integral numerically agrees with observed action integrals within a few percent. (auth)
