The gamma rays from the radioactive isotopes produced by a 17-Mev /sup 3/He bombardment of 97.8% enriched /sup 151/Eu were investigated. Comparison spectra were obtained experimentally by bombarding the same isotope with 22-Mev alpha particles and 6-Mev protons. Also 81.0% /sup 150/Sm, 21.8% /sup 152/Gd, and 94.85% /sup 153/Eu were bombarded with 6-Mev protons. Comparison of the spectra and consideration of the coincidence data indicated that the isotopes / sup 151/Tb and /sup 152/Tb, both with an 18-hr half life, were produced in the / sup 3/He bombardment. Further study- of the relative intensities of the gamma rays and of the coincidence data led to the construction of energy level diagrams for these isotopes. The well-known activities of /sup 153/Tb, /sup 154/Tb, and / sup 150/Eu with comparable half lives were also produced and verified as well as the longer lived isotopes of /sup 151/Gd and /sup 150/Gd. An exact calculation to determine the relative intensities of the gamma rays was made to replace a previous approximation. (Dissertation Abstr., 24: No. 8, Feb. 1964)
