Experiments on Space Charge Sheaths; ESPERIENZE SULLE GUAINE DI CARICA SPAZIALE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4004994
The experimental program is summarized. An experiment on sheath formation in a weak azimuthal magnetic fleld led to studies of the current limitation in a lowpressure mercury arc and of the stationary plasma. Work preliminary to a study of ionic waves in low-pressure mercury arcs and cesium plasmas in thermodynamic equilibrium is reported. The appartus for these experiments will also be used to study plasma in equilibrium. Experiments on the unipolar arc, r-f plasmoids, and a method for obtaining a high d-c current in gases other than mercury are briefly described. (auth)
