Steady-state properties of superconducting bridges

The line current density J/subs/ is calculated as a function of the phase difference phi for a superconducting bridge of ''variable thickness'' when the nonlinear processes are localized in the bridge. Characteristic parameters of the function J/subs/(phi) : the critical current J/subc/ and the form factor D= (dJ/subs//dphi)$sup -1$/sub phi//sub pi/Jc: are found as functions of the bridge length. It follows from the results that variable-thickness bridges retain their Josephson properties up to lengths approx. (2divided-by3) xi. A comparison is made with the Dayem bridge. (AIP)
