SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF A WEAKLY IONIZED PLASMA IN A HELIUM HOLLOW CATHOD DISCHARGE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4002384
Thr spectrum of a helium cathode discharge tube was studied in the visible and vacuum ultraviolet regions. Doppler temperatures of ion and representative neutral lines were calculated from line profiles measured with a photoelectric Fabry-Perot interferometer. Approximate electron densities and temperatures were determined from the gross features of the observed distribution of excited states. Dominating processes producing some of the details of the neutral helium excitation are proposed. (auth)
