MSW {nu}{sub {ital e}}{r_arrow}{nu}{sub {ital s}} transition solution of the solar neutrino problem

We study the stability of the two-neutrino MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem, corresponding to solar {nu}{sub {ital e}} transitions into a sterile neutrino, {nu}{sub {ital e}}{r_arrow}{nu}{sub {ital s}}, with respect to changes of the total fluxes of {sup 8}B and {sup 7}Be neutrinos, {Phi}{sub B} and {Phi}{sub Be}. For any value of {Phi}{sub Be} from the interval 0.7{Phi}{sub Be}{sup BP}{le}{Phi}{sub Be}{le}1.3{Phi}{sub Be}{sup BP} the {nu}{sub {ital e}}{r_arrow}{nu}{sub {ital s}} MSW transitions provide at 95{percent} C.L. a description of the existing solar neutrino data for 0.40{Phi}{sub B}{sup BP}{approx_lt}{Phi}{sub B}{approx_lt}36{Phi}{sub B}{sup BP} {Phi}{sub B}{sup BP} and {Phi}{sub Be}{sup BP} being the fluxes in the solar model of Bahcall and Pinsonneault [Rev. Mod. Phys. {bold 69}, 85 (1992)]. The corresponding allowed regions of values of the parameters {Delta}{ital m}{sup 2} and sin{sup 2}2{theta}, characterizing the solar neutrino transitions, are derived. The physical implications of the found MSW {nu}{sub {ital e}}{r_arrow}{nu}{sub {ital s}} solutions for the future solar neutrino experiments are considered as well. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
