New GEKKO XII glass laser system has been improved by the precision project of the power balance with the partially coherent light (PCL) source to attain a few percent nonuniformity of the spherical irradiation of the pellet in a directly driven implosion scheme. The technical issues for balancing the twelve beam intensity and the theoretical treatment of the PCL optics are summarized. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
