We have assessed enhancement of deexcitation and recombination rate coefficients for lithiumlike excited ions in dense plasma. The former process is caused by ladder-like excitation or deexcitation processes through a doubly excited level of beryllium-like ions, and the latter is approximately by collisional-radiative recombination process for hydrogenic ions. We include these processes into our collisional-radiative model for lithiumlike ions, and calculate the gain of recombining lithiumlike aluminum x-ray laser. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
