The authors have initiated an ab-initio study of low energy electron collision with CH{sub 3}Cl using the complex Kohn variational method. CH{sub 3}Cl is the simplest chlorinated hydrocarbon. This class of molecules exhibits an enormous range of cross sections, whose magnitude is the subject of experimental disagreement. Their calculations concentrated on elastic scattering and included the effects of target correlation. Polarization effects were included via an ab-initio optical potential. The autors present results for the differential and momentum transfer cross sections, and for dissociative attachment.
