Electron-impact ionization of atoms using many-body perturbation theory

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:394340
The inelastic scattering of electrons from atoms is studied using many-body perturbation theory. The optical potential is used to calculate the lowest-order, single-ionization cross-sections for closed shell atoms using Hartree-Fock wave functions for the basis states. Diagrams associated with higher-order corrections to single-ionization and the lowest-order contributions to double-ionization are identified. Preliminary calculations of these higher-order contributions are presented.
