Effects of initial orbital alignment in low-energy electron capture in H{sup +} + K(4p) collisions
- Florida A&M Univ., Tallahassee, FL (United States)
The study of the dependence of the cross sections and collision parameters on the orientation and the alignment of the initial target state has drawn considerable theoretical and experimental attention. It has been shown recently that the inelastic cross sections, involving low Rydberg Na and He atoms, are very sensitive to the shape and the alignment of the initial state of the Rydberg Na target. The authors have undertaken a systematic study of charge transfer processes involving H{sup +} and excited alkali atoms, using the close-coupling method, in a molecular representation including plane wave translation factors. The charge transfer cross sections for the formation of the H(2p{sub m}) state and their dependence on the initial orbital alignment of K (4p) will be presented.
