Temperature dependence of positronium collisional quenching rates

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:394199

In order to complement the positronium thermalization studies the authors are separately measuring the orthopositronium (o-Ps) collisional quenching rate in gases as a function of temperature. Annihilation decay rates are measured in a high pressure gas cell held at temperatures ranging from 20{degrees}C to 300{degrees}C in order to determine the dependence of O-Ps-gas quenching cross section on the average o-Ps energy. Taken together these two experiments will determine whether the systematic effects of incompletely thermalized Ps were correctly accounted for in the precision decay rate measurements.
