Experimental comparison of the extended Wannier theory for the double ionization threshold, using the triatomic molecules, H3+ and D3+

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:394169
The authors have measured the absolute, total cross sections for the production of H{sup {minus}} and D{sup {minus}} ions, resulting from the collision-induced-dissociation of H3+ and D3+ on He target for incoming beam energies ranging from 2.5 to 9.0 keV. These measurements, together with the energy distributions of the negative fragments were used to compare their behavior with the extended Wannier theoretical predictions for the double ionization threshold. It is found that the ratio of the two fitting coefficients are close to the mass ratio of the triatomic projectiles.
