The single ionization process in collisions of H{sup +} and C{sup 6+} with He at low velocities (v=0.63 - 2.39 au) was studied. A new technique was developed in which a two-dimensional momentum distribution of the emitted electrons in the ionization process was obtained in a triple coincidence experiment. The data show a strong impact-velocity and projectile-charge-state dependence. All distributions have a peak between the projectile and the target in momentum space which reflects a strong two-center effect in this velocity range. In the H{sup +} + He system this peak moves from the vicinity of the target at high velocity to the saddle point at lower velocities. The experimental results are compared to CTMC and CDW-EIS theoretical calculations. In general both theories agree very well with the experimental results for the H{sup +} + He system while they are in poor agreement for the C{sup 6+} + He system.
