Meeting environmental regulations for emissions is crucial to all players in the pipeline and gas industry worldwide. In Europe, many companies cannot operate existing equipment of install new equipment without the promise of meeting NO{sub x} and CO emission requirements placed by local, state and national governments. One progressive German pipeline gas transmission company, Ruhrgas, has opted to employ new state-of-the-art technology on compressor drive units to meet emission requirements. This significant undertaking was recently completed on a GE LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine at Ruhrgas` Gescher Station. Through August 1996, the unit had accumulated more than 2,500 operating hours. When tested on-site at full power with ambient temperatures of 7--16 C, the emissions from the engine were approximately 15 ppm NO{sub x}, 5 to 6 ppm CO and no unburned hydrocarbons (UHC). The paper discusses the background of the project, the conversion, unit restart, and M and I`s dry low emission combustor program.
