This paper reviews the history of the Giant Hibernia oil and gas field in the offshore areas of eastern Canada. The main thrust of the paper is to discuss the methods of construction, design, and transport of the huge Hibernia platform which will be the base of operation for a truly international oil and gas development with first production planned for December, 1997. The construction of this large gravity platform is concrete. The method of pouring and designing such a platform is discussed.
