A mini-platform for deepwater - the SeaStar TLP

Conference ·
OSTI ID:39208

The SeaStar Tension-Leg Platform family has been developed to provide production and utility platforms for application in up to 6,000 ft. water depth. These new deepwater designs combine proven TLP technology with the cost and schedule advantages of marginal field platform designs that have been used extensively in shallow water. SeaStar TLP designs have been developed over a four year period with funding provided by the US Department of Energy`s Small Business Innovation Research Program. This paper describes the SeaStar TLP design and its operational advantages in selected deepwater development schemes. Background on the development of these designs is presented, including evolution of shallow water and deepwater developments in the Gulf of Mexico.
