The Second International Conference on Carburizing and Nitriding with Atmospheres was held on 6--8 December, 1995, in Cleveland, Ohio. The first conference in this series was held in Golden, Colorado, in 1989. Since that time there has been an explosion of new technology in the broader area of atmosphere heat treating which includes carbonitriding and nitriding in addition to carburizing. Also, there has been a great industry demand for information on new process technology developments. Papers in this conference covered process controls, process modeling, product performance and metallurgy, equipment, carburizing, nitriding, and carbonitriding. The conference was held to obtain a global assessment of current atmosphere heat treating technology developments. Fifty nine papers were processed separately for inclusion on the data base.
