We have investigated doubly excited states in Li{sup {minus}} by measuring the relative partial cross section for photodetaching the Li{sup {minus}} ion via the Li(3{ital s})+{ital e}{sup {minus}}({var_epsilon}{ital P}) channel. The observed resonances are associated with the autodetaching decay of doubly excited states of {ital P}{sup 0}1 symmetry lying just below the Li(4{ital p}) and Li(5{ital p}) thresholds. Excellent agreement between the measured and recently calculated spectra was found below the Li(4{ital p}) threshold. In the region below the Li(5{ital p}) threshold, however, noticeable differences were observed. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
