{eta} photo-production on the proton and neutron to 1.2 GeV

We have measured {eta}-meson photoproduction cross sections on 7 cm thick H{sub 2} and D{sub 2} liquid targets. We used the tagged Bremsstrahlung photon beam produced by the electrons extracted from the ELSA storage ring The maximum Gamma energy was 1.2 GeV and typical intensities e order of 8 x 10{sup 6} Hs integrated from threshold to the maximum energy. The {eta}-meson was identified by its decay products in the neutral meson spectrometer SPES0-2{pi} build at Orsay. The recoil baryons (proton, neutron, or deuteron) were detected by the large angle scintillator detectors PHOENICS of Bonn. About 10{sup 6} {eta} events were recorded, allowing to determine total and differential cross sections with much better statistical accuracy on a larger dynamic range than presently published results. The comparison between results obtained on H{sub 2} target (free proton) and D{sub 2} target (quasi-free proton, quasifree neutron, and free deuteron) should shed light on the ratio of Isovector to Isoscalar amplitudes in the {eta}-meson photoproduction process.
