Rotational bands and band crossings in neutron rich Pd and Ag nuclei

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society

High-spin states in {sup 107,108}Pd and {sup 109}Ag were populated via {alpha}xn and pxn evaporation following bombardment of an enriched {sup 96}Zr target with an {sup 18}O beam at energies of 60 and 70 MeV from the Chalk River TASCC facility. In this reaction, over 90% of the fusion cross section populates cadmium nuclei via xn evaporation. The use of a high-efficiency charged-particle detector array was therefore necessary to select the channels of interest. Charged-particle-{gamma}-{gamma} coincidences were recorded with the 8{pi} spectrometer and ALF charged-particle array. Preliminary yrast level-schemes for {sup 107,108}Pd and {sup l09}Ag will be presented and compared with theoretical predictions and systematics of neighboring nuclei. In {sup 107}Pd, for which the analysis is most advanced, the v h{sub 11/2} yrast band is observed to spins of 43/2 h, well above the first band crossing at {omega}=0.45 MeV/h.
