Scattering of polarized protons from {sup 14}C at 200 MeV

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:387205
Inelastic cross sections ({sigma}) and analyzing powers (A) for states in {sup 14}C have been measured from {theta}{sub lab} = 19.5{degrees} to 47.5{degrees} with 200 MeV polarized protons. Angular distributions of protons leading to excited states at E{sub x}=6.09 (1{sup -}) , 6.59 (0{sup +}), 6.73 (3{sup -}), 7.01 (2{sup +}), 7.34 (2{sup -}), 8.32 (2{sup +}), 11.7 (4{sup -}), 15.2 (4{sup -}), and 17.3 (4{sup -}) MeV have been extracted from the data. The results are compared to DWIA calculations using formfactors from electron scattering and different effective interactions. Comparisons for the 4{sup -} stretched transitions at 15.2 and 17.3 MeV indicate that the isoscalar spin-orbit and/or the isoscalar tensor parts of the Franey-Love interaction are too strong.
