Beam polarization measurements at MIT-bates using a moeller polarimeter

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:387146
Results will be presented from electron beam polarization measurements made at the MIT-Bates Accelerator using the Moeller polarimeter apparatus. The polarized electrons were transported through a Wien filter and the polarized injector to compensate for the spin precession caused by the 90{degrees} B-line bend. Measurements were taken at a beam energy of 370 MeV with Moeller electrons momentum-analyzed by a quadrupole magnet and detected using Lucite Cerenkov detectors. The Moeller electrons were used to determine the effects of the accelerator solenoidal lenses on the longitudinal polarization at the target. The beam polarization was determined from the measured cross section asymmetry with knowledge of the Moeller target foil polarization and corrections for backgrounds.
