EUROGAM at Daresbury has been us d to mature the spectrum of {gamma} rays emitted in the decay of the superdeformed (SD) band in {sup 192}Hg. This spectrum shows a quasicontinuous structure, with additional broad peaks and sharp lines. At the point of decay. the SD excitation energy above yrast is inferred to be >3.8 MeV. The spectral shape shows that the main decay mechanism is through mixing with the underlying continuum of normal states. The spectra for feeding and decay {gamma}`s reveal an unusual series of events with the transition sequence: chaos to order to chaos to order.
