Fragmentation of isovector strength in {sup 142}Ce

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:387040
The level structure of {sup 142}Ce up to 3.4 MeV excitation has been determined utilizing the (n,n`{gamma}) reaction. Transition rates were determined with the Doppler shift attenuation method. Of special interest are decays of the 1{sup +}, 2{sup +}, and 3{sup +} states which may have IBA-2 or PCM interpretation. The 2{sub m}+ strength appears to be fragmented between the physical 2{sub 3}+ and 2{sub 4}+ states and the summed B(Ml) strength is consistent with the U(5) limit of Van Isacker. Results are compared with available model calculations.
