Title: Electronics for the APEX silicon array

APEX uses 432 Si PIN diodes to measure the energy and time of flight of electrons and positrons. Each detector connects to a fast-slow preamplifier (PA). Thirty-six PAs mount on one motherboard that distributes the input and output signals and monitors detector voltage and leakage currents. An 8-channel Shaping Amplifier (SA) shapes and amplifies the slow signal from the preamplifier. A 16-channel Peak-to-FERA Converter (PTF) stretches the output signal of the SA. A Fast-Encoding & Readout ADC (FERA) digitizes the stretched signal. A 16-channel Fast Amplifier (FA) amplifies the fast timing signal from the preamplifier. The amplified signal triggers a Constant-Fraction Discriminator (CFD). A FERA digitizes the charge output of the CFD. All of these components, except the FAs and the FERAs, have been custom built for APEX, Their design and performance will be discussed.
