Superdeformation is known to exist for medium mass nuclei at high spin. In order to investigate the possibility of superdeformation at low spin, we calculate deformation energy curves for prolate nuclei in the region 50 {le} Z {le} 68, 80 {le} N {le} 102. We utilize the, constrained Hartree-Fock method with the Skyrme interaction Skin and seniority pairing. The sensitivity of the calculations to the particular parametrization of the Skyrme potential is examined. Results are presented for the nuclei which offer the most promise, to support isomerism at low spin. Cranked HF calculations are in progress for these nuclei.
