A new test of time reversal invariance in {sup 18}Ne beta decay is now being planned at Princeton. The experiment involves the measurement of the time reversal odd angular correlation, J {center_dot} (p{sub e} x p{sub nu}), where J is the {sup 19}Ne spin, and p{sub e} and p{sub nu} are the outgoing positron and neutrino momenta. In the new experiment, we expect to reach a statistical uncertainty of 1 x 10{sup -4} or better, which is approximately the level at which final state electromagnetic interactions are expected to become important. The ion detectors to be used in this experiment consist of single stage microchannel plates (MCPs) followed by silicon strip detectors, which serve both as the readout devices for the MCPs and as the positron detectors. These detector pairs will be mounted on the faces of a cubic cell, which will be filled with a polarized sample of {sup 19}Ne gas. Several studies have been carried out on the characteristics of the MCP-silicon detector combination as an ion detector. A Monte-Carlo study of the experiment is also being used to understand the possible systematic errors that enter the measurement.
