The ordinary Schwinger model is studied for a one-parameter class of regularizations commonly used in the study of the anomalous {ital chiral} Schwinger model and shown to be sensible and in fact solvable for a range of values of the parameter. There is a massless fermion in the spectrum except at the value which corresponds to the usual treatment of the model. Copyright {copyright} 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
