Title: Aerosol aspects of oil mist lubrication -- Reclassification and deposition of oil mist in bearings

In this investigation the tools of aerosol mechanics have been used to investigate the influence of several commercially available reclassifiers on the droplet size distribution of oil mist. It has been observed that the mist type reclassifier causes negligible change in the droplet size distribution of oil mist. The influence of the bearing speed and the droplet size distribution of oil mist on the deposition of oil droplets in bearings have also been investigated. It has been observed that the bearing speed influences the deposition of oil mist on the bearing surfaces. However the droplet size has been found to be the most important parameter influencing the deposition of airborne oil droplets in bearings. It has been found that there is an optimum range of airborne oil droplet size which maximizes the deposition of oil mist in bearings without significantly increasing the deposition of oil droplets in the supply pipe.
