The variations of gross alpha, beta radioactivity concentrations in air of Northern Greece (Xanthi) have been studied over a year. Air temperature and humidity have a great effect on the value of those concentrations. Soil gamma radioactivity variations, in the nearby area, have been also studied and appear to be proportional to the variation of gross alpha, beta radioactivity. It has been noted that the increase of humidity and the decrease of temperature, result in the rise of gross alpha, beta radioactivity concentration at the atmospheric layers adjacent to the soil. The {open_quotes}trapping{close_quotes} of dust aerosols, on which have been stuck the radionuclides, by the humidity is the mechanism producing this phenomenon. 6 refs., 6 figs.
