State of the outlet works of the Sayano-Shushenskow hydroelectric station and problems of their operation

The hydroelectric station and service spillway are part of the outlet works of the Sayano-Shushenskoe hydrostation in Russia. With ten 640 MWe units, the discharge capacity of the turbines is 3400-3600 cubic meters/second. This substantial discharge rate places a severe burden on the outlet works, and this article reviews the effects of this high discharge rate and maintenance activities to deal with these effects.
