Tank 241-SY-103 core sample: Interpretation of results

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:378923

Tank 241-SY-103 accumulates and periodically releases flammable gases such as hydrogen and nitrous oxide. A full-depth core sample was taken from Tank 241-SY-103 during August and September 1994. This data was compared with similar data from Tank 241-SY-101, which exhibited gas accumulation and release behavior before it was mitigated with a mixer pump. The waste in Tank 103-SY is chemically similar to that in Tank 101-SY. Of the two tanks, Tank 103-SY has a lower density in the nonconvective layer, a lower TOC concentration, and a lower heat load.
