This publication reports results of the 1994 study of the forest-land owners of the United States. Included are estimates of the number of private forest-land ownerships in the United States. It describes ownership objectives, expected benefits, harvest experience, intention to harvest, and management planning. The previous nationwide ownership study for the United States was conducted in 1978 (Birch and others 1982). An addition objective of this paper is to review trends between the two surveys.
